Yelizarov Yusuf (Yusufkhai) Ifraimovich. Born in the city of Samarkand. A native of Bukhara Jews. Soviet painter, mainly portraitist, Honoured Art Worker of the Uzbek SSR (1964), teacher. ‘Made a great and valuable contribution to the art of Soviet Uzbekistan’ (Shostko, 1982). He studied at the Samarkand Art School (1935-1941) under Pavel Petrovich Benkov, at the Moscow Art Institute named after Surikov (1942-1949), and at the Moscow Art Institute named after Surikov (1942-1949) in the workshops of Sergey Vasilievich Gerasimov and Igor Emmanuilovich Grabar.
