Urmanche Baki Idrisovich. National Artist of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation. Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan. Laureate of the Gabdulla Tukai State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan. He was born in the village of Kul Cherkene now Buinsky district of Tatarstan. In 1919 he studied in Kazan free art workshops, in 1926 he graduated from VKhUTEMAS in Moscow at two faculties, sculpture - in the workshop of A. Golubkina, and painting - with A. Shevchenko. From 1926 to 1929 he taught at the Kazan Art College. In 1941-1956 Baki Urmanche worked in Kazakhstan. He stood at the origins of Tatar professional fine arts. He was the first Tatar artist to receive higher professional education at a Soviet art university. From 1956 to 1958 he taught at the Tashkent Theatre Institute. Famous works are ‘Debarakder on the Volga’ (1929), ‘At the Samovar’ (1929), ‘In a Tatar Village’ (1938). The works are kept in the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after A. Kasteev, the State Museum of Oriental Art, the State Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan (Kazan), the State Museum of Uzbekistan (Tashkent), the Memorial Museum named after M.
