Vasily Timofeev. Kazakhstani graphic artist. Master of ex-libris, one of the founders of this genre of graphics in Kazakhstan. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts since 1974. Vasily Timofeev. Kazakhstani graphic artist. Master of ex-libris, one of the founders of this genre of graphics in Kazakhstan. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts since 1974. Was awarded medals of the USSR. Born in Tatarsk, Novosibirsk region. He began training in art at the age of 14 in the art studio of the House of Pioneers. In 1958 he moved to Almaty. He graduated with honours from the theatrical and decorative department of the N.V. Gogol Almaty Art School (modern Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Oral Tansykbaev) in 1963. His graduation work was sketches for the scenery of Borodin's opera ‘Prince Igor’, made in linocut material. The art of engraving became close to him in the second year of the school, when the young artist was imbued with the ‘principles of aesthetics’ of V. Favorsky's work. In 1961 he became a member of an archeological expedition and took part in the excavations of ancient Taraz. From the expedition he brought a lot of sketches and genre compositions, which were presented to the audience at the first personal exhibition of the artist in 1961. Since 1967 lives and works in Karaganda. From this period he became an indispensable participant of republican, all-Union and foreign exhibitions. In 1971 he moved to Balkhash, where he headed the art and production workshops of the Artists Union and the Art Fund of the Republic. The main theme of his works during 20 years became Pribalkhashye. In the late 1970s he turned to etching and dry needle techniques, which he mastered independently. In 1982 he returned to Almaty, where he became deputy chairman of the Artists Union. Since 1998 lived and worked in Moscow. Works are repreesented in the funds of the Historical and Local History Museum of Tatarsk, State Tretyakov Gallery, Central State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after A. Kasteev, as well as in many regional art museums of Kazakhstan and Russia. He is an academician of the Academy of Arts of Kazakhstan and the International Academy of Creativity. скрыть
