The Egornov brothers (Alexander and Sergei). Russian painters. Alexander Semyonovich Egornov. Born in Moscow in 1858. Painter, watercolourist. From 1883 studied at the Academy of Arts under M.K. Klodt, was awarded a large silver medal (1886), a small gold medal (1887) and a large gold medal and the title of class artist of the 1st degree for the painting ‘The Oaks’. Since 1887 he was a regular participant of exhibitions. In 1889-1891 as a pensioner of the Academy of Arts travelled to France, Italy and England. For landscapes ‘Before the Thunderstorm’ (1893, GRM) and ‘Normandy Coast’ (1893) received the title of Academician. From 1897 to 1902 he headed the Society of Russian watercolourists in St. Petersburg, which included Albert Benois, A.P. Bogolyubov, M.P. Klodt, K.Y. Kryzhitsky, L.F. Lagorio. An exhibition of the artist's works was held in 1904 in St. Petersburg. The works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, GRM, many other regional and national museums. The rapid rise of his career was interrupted by his early death at the age of 44 at the turn of 1902-1903. A year later, a posthumous exhibition of the artist's works, organised by his brother, took place in the capital, where he was buried. His younger brother Sergei, having graduated from the Moscow St Michael's Real School, took private drawing lessons from Pavel Bryullov in St Petersburg. Later Sergei Semyonovich Egornov entered the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, and then studied at the Academy of Arts for ten years. Unlike his older brother, A.S. Egornov, who painted mainly landscapes, Sergei Semyonovich Egornov was both a portraitist and a painter who painted classics, everyday life and landscapes. S.S. Egornov died during the great Russian turmoil in 1920 in Gelendzhik. скрыть
