Alexei Stepanov. Honoured Art Worker of the KazSSR. National Artist of the KazSSR. Born in Penza in 1923. He was fond of drawing since childhood. He studied at the Penza Art School named after K.A. Since 1952 Stepanov has been working in Almaty. Living in Kazakhstan, he painted pictures on themes from the life and history of the Kazakh people and their friendship with the Russian people. Landscape constantly fascinates Stepanov and becomes one of the leading genres in his work. Over the years, the painter's pictorial language acquires greater freedom. In the work of the artist reflected and acute modern theme of the time associated with space, on which he began to work in the 1960s. In the works of A. Stepanov light-air environment unites the colours into a single harmonious whole. But his creative heritage is not exhausted only by the cosmic theme, the artist was also attracted by ‘earthly subjects’, in which his creative imagination was based on the images of real reality. The most famous works of the artist ‘Man from Planet Earth’ and ‘In Flight’, written in 1963, embody the depth of the artist's perception of the human personality.
