He became a member of the Artists Union of the USSR, the owner of many diplomas and honourable diplomas of the Central Committee of the LKSM of Kazakhstan and the Central Committee of the Komsomol. In 1976-1982 worked in publishing houses ‘Zhalyn’, ‘Zhazushy’ (Almaty). His views on life, social activity went out of the generally accepted framework. Paintings of the artist, mainly portraits, were extraordinary. As a result, he was excluded from the Artists Union of Kazakhstan for a long time, and restored it only before his death, in 1988. In 1988 -1991 personal exhibitions were held. The works of Sh. Sariev have stood the test of time, entering a bright page in the history of fine arts of Kazakhstan. Works are presented in the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after A. Kasteev (Almaty), the Museum of Modern Art (Astana).
