Maxim Novikov. Painter, graphic artist. Member of the Artists Union of the USSR, Associate Professor. In 1907-1910 studied at the Kiev Art School. He studied at the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts, his teacher was the famous landscape painter Dubovskoy Nikolai Nikanorovich. Novikov finished his studies in 1917. Until 1921 he worked in revolutionary Petrograd, and then came to Tashkent. He worked as a landscape painter. In 1926 he was one of the organisers of the Tashkent branch of the AHRR (existed until April 1930); together with I.Kazakov and N.Rykov he taught in the studio opened at the Tashkent branch of the AHRR. In the late 1930s - early 1940s he visited the construction of the Big Fergana Canal. He held a personal exhibition in Tashkent (1958), dedicated to the 70th anniversary of his birth and the 40th anniversary of his creative activity. His early works created in Uzbekistan are characterised by materiality of texture, pastosity, some roughness of brushstroke. Over time, the artist's individual manner evolved. In the late 1930s, his canvases were devoid of excessive rigidity and a multitude of small details, which were sinful in the works of the preceding time; real light and air appeared in them. And later Novikov's lyrical landscapes, built on tonal-light relations, won him recognition as a master of tonal painting. The artist's works are in many museum collections, including the State Art Museum of Uzbekistan. скрыть
