Mambeyev Sabur Abdrasulovich. Soviet and Kazakh artist. Member of the Artists Union of the USSR (1956). Honoured Art Worker of the Kazakh SSR (1963). People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1980). Chairman of the Artists Union of the Kazakh SSR (1952-1962, 1968-1983). Was born on the 1st of May 1928 in the village Abai-Bazar of Kelles district of South Kazakhstan region. In his childhood years he attended art studio of the House of Pioneers in Almaty, where his first teacher was Z. Nazirov. In 1946 graduated from Almaty Art School named after N.V.Gogol (modern Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Oral Tansykbaev). In 1953 graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. Repin of the USSR Academy of Arts, studied under B. Fokin, M. Avilov. Most of his works are of genre character. A number of his works are characterised by great decorativeness, sometimes they are likened to peculiar carpets, where human figures turn into decorative spots. In the works ‘Perekochevka’ (1962), ‘Students’ (1960) the aspiration to pure colour is noticeable. Mambeyev is inherent in the constant search for decorativeness and plasticity. The paintings ‘In the Mountains’ (1957), ‘At the Yurt’ (1958) constitute a bright page of his creative work. Participant of exhibitions since 1950. Since 1953 works in Almaty. In 1953 - 1956 he taught at the Almaty Art School named after N.V. Gogol (modern Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Oral Tansykbaev). Mambeyev's creative growth was favourably influenced by the rich creative heritage of the Kazakh people: bright colourful ornaments of felt koshmas, carving on stone, wood, bone, chasing on metal, embossing patterns on leather. The works are represented in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Kasteev State Museum of Arts of Kazakhstan, the Museum of Modern Art, Astana. скрыть
