Was born in aul No.6 in Telmanovskiy district of Karaganda region in a family of the miner. In 1925 studied arts at school named after Abay in Kyzyl-Orda. The studio was headed by the Kazakh artist Amantayev Zhanke. In 1926-1928 Ismailov was engaged in isostudios of Petropavlovsk at Kazkommun, the studio students travelled a lot around the region, wrote from nature on plein air. In 1928 Ismailov entered the Omsk Art-Industrial Technical School. In the same year 1028 Aubakir Ismailov became a participant of the First travelling exhibition of works of artists of Kazakhstan. Ismailov's works received good reviews in the press and were awarded. Aubakir Ismailov actively co-operated in regional and region newspapers ‘Socialist Kazakhstan’, ‘Lenshil Zhas’. In 1935 Ismailov was elected chairman of the Organising Committee of the Union of Soviet Artists of Kazakhstan. In 1934-1936 gg. Ismailov was the first in the republic to perform a number of works dedicated to the great Kazakh composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbaev ‘Portrait of Kurmangazy’, ‘Sary-arka’, ‘Kurmangazy among the people’ and others. The strong point of his creativity is landscape. He was acquainted with V. Mayakovsky (participated in ‘Windows of ROSTA’) and K. Stanislavsky. Ismail Aubakirov was engaged not only in painting. In 1934-1938 he returned to Moscow to master the profession of theatre director and studied at GITIS in the workshop of A.Sudakov. He worked as a director and production designer at the Kazakh Academic Drama Theatre (1938 - 1943), directed the folk dance ensemble at the Kazakh State Philharmonic (from 1939). He worked as a production designer at the Republican Theatre of Young Spectators (1948 - 1958). As an actor, Ismailov starred in the following films: ‘Angel in a skullcap’, ‘Blue Route’, ‘Horizons’, ‘Our Lovely Doctor’. At the exhibition devoted to the 20th anniversary of creative activity, the artist presented more than 300 works. Personal exhibitions in Almaty were held in 1964, 1967 and 1974. In 2011, an exhibition of paintings by Aubakir Ismailov was held in the United States of America, in New York. Artist's works are kept in the collection of the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after A. Kasteev. скрыть
