Benois Albert Nikolayevich was a Russian painter, architect, academician and full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He was a son of Nikolai Leontievich Benois - Russian architect, academician and professor of architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts, chief architect of Peterhof. Benois Albert studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in the architectural department (1871-1877). At the same time he studied watercolour under L. O. Premazzi. Benois Albert Nikolayevich was a Russian painter, architect, academician and full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He was a son of Nikolai Leontievich Benois - Russian architect, academician and professor of architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts, chief architect of Peterhof. Benois Albert studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in the architectural department (1871-1877). At the same time he studied watercolour under L. O. Premazzi. In 1876 he was awarded a large encouragement medal and a small gold medal for the programme ‘Project of the University’. In 1877 he was graduated from the Academy with the title of class artist-architect of the 1st degree. After graduating from the Imperial Academy of Arts he took up watercolour painting. In 1883-1885 he travelled to Italy, France and Spain to improve his watercolour technique. In 1884, he was awarded the title of Academician for his watercolours ‘Balier Place’, ‘City of San Remo’ and others. On his return to St Petersburg he was appointed a teacher of watercolour at the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1880 he became one of the founders of the Society of Russian Watercolourists, in 1887-1897 - a member of the Board of the Society, in 1897-1918 - an honorary member of the Society. He held personal exhibitions in St Petersburg (1903, 1909, 1915) and Kiev (1904, 1909). From 1895 - curator of the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III. In 1924 he emigrated to Paris, where in 1926 he was elected a member of the Paris Academy of Fine Arts. скрыть
