Hodzhikov Hodzhakhmet Kongyr - Hodzhayevich. The artist was born in 1910 in Kyzyl-Orda in the family of a village teacher. In 1925-1927 he attended preparatory courses for the nations of the Soviet East Vkhutemas in Moscow. During his years in the studio he experienced formalist influences, but later became a realist. In 1928-1930 he worked in Tashkent in Uzbekknigoizdat as a cartoonist, later in Almaty in the Kazakh newspaper ‘Enbekshi Kazakh’ and in the Russian ‘Sovetskaya steppe’. During these years he was intensively engaged in linocutting and was the first who introduced this technique in the graphics of Kazakhstan. At the same time the artist was fond of watercolour. In the 30-ies Hodzhikov's creativity blossomed. In some of his works one can feel the influence of the famous Russian artist K.S. Petrov-Vodkin. Watercolours by Khodzhikov - ‘Threshing’ (1937) and ‘Harvest’ (1937) are marked by great talent. The theme of easel Hodzhikov's works is a man of labour, images of rural workers (‘Harvest’, ‘Milking mares’, ‘Threshing’ and others). In his lyrical paintings ‘Night in a Fisherman's Collective Farm’, ‘Boats on the Shore’, ‘Landscape with Mountains’ he poetically praised the life of the Kazakh aul. He wrote more than 100 satirical linocuts on topical subjects. скрыть
